Each gospel complements the other three since they were records of four different eyewitness accounts. Each gospel also gave a different view to reach different groups of people and even different people in their different levels of spiritual growth. Example Matthew using many references to the "Old Testament" Scriptures so the Jews could see that God kept his promise of the Messiah. John's witness recorded how Jesus was The Son of God and the Son of Man. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, Emanuel.
They may have witnessed the events at different times. Take for example two people who have witnessed and accident, one will give an account one way and the other will see something different. God may uses these different interpretations to paint a different picture of what has happened.
The fact they don't give exact accounts makes them more credible than if they all said the exact same thing. Just like if cops are getting witness accounts after a crime, all of the stories will be a bit different because they are seeing it from their own point of view. If they all had the exact same account then the cops would know they had talked about it prior to and came up with a story. Same thing for the gospels.
