This song struck me differently today while I was listening to it. I realized today how much Christian teaching there is in it, not just a cute little song about a boy playing his drum for Jesus. So, I decided to break the song down and put into words the meanings I have found in it and thought I would share.I apologize for the length, and would love ya'lls thoughts.
Little Drummer Boy
Come they told me
We don’t know who they is, but they evangelised to the little boy, they invited him to come with them to see Jesus.
Poor boy too
The boy didn’t acknowledge Him as a king at first
We do the same thing! The first time we meet Jesus He isn’t our king until we accept Him as our Lord and Savior
Jesus didn’t come as a king in the earthly sense, He came as a poor/lowly baby so that even the little drummer boy felt like he was able to approach Him.
No gifts to bring
We can’t earn or buy our way to Jesus, we have to come just as we are.
He plays his drum before meeting Jesus, but doesn’t mention playing it for Jesus until after he meets Him.
God gives us gifts to use for His glory, but He can’t be glorified in them until we have met Him.
Shall I play for you?
He uses his gift to please Jesus
I play my best for you
He wants to give Jesus his best
He states earlier in the song that the drum is all He had to bring, so by doing his best, he’s giving all that He has to Christ.
Then He smiled at me
When we give all that we have to Christ, it pleases Him!
Well done brother. I like the way you included us in the tale of the drummer boy.
