Wonderful question. Very thought provoking. I would say, in my opinion, that the angels, Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds were full of astonishment and worship at the birth of the Savior. However, they did not bring gifts, only themselves. In that way then, the Magi, being much later in the chronology, selected gifts that would be fit for a King. They traveled far in search of the Christ. I am sure that they were filled with worship, awe, and needed to bring the King a present.
