I would like to know Pastor Bob's definition of "systematic theology ". The Google definition I found is "a disciple of Christian theology that formulates an orderly, rational, and coherent account of the doctrine of the Christian faith." Can you expound on this? With all of the changes in my beliefs over the years due to maturing, study , and definitely changing denominations, I find a need to have a more "orderly, rational, and coherent " doctrine of my faith based on Scriptures. I am basically a structural/linear thinker and I have too many "things" floating in my mind. Argh! Where do I begin?

What a great question. Briefly, "Systematic Theology" is a discipline of Christian theology that is systematic in its approach, meaning that it is an orderly and rational approach to the many doctrines of the Bible, both Old and New Testaments.

Let’s begin by breaking down the term, “Systematic Theology.” “Systematic” refers to the approach of Bible study…it is methodical, orderly, and organized in its approach. “Theology” is the “study of God.” Therefore “Systematic theology” is, a planned study of God considering the doctrines of the Word of God.

For example, if we wanted to study the doctrine of angels (Angelology), we would have to search the whole of the Bible. There is plenty of information found within the pages of the Bible, but how do we draw a conclusion to the study of angels? We approach “Angelology” systematically by looking at every reference throughout the Bible since many books of the Bible reference angels.

Systematic theology organizes the teachings of the Bible into categorical systems.

The general consensus of the subjects/doctrines in Systematic Theology would include:

1. Theology Proper is the study of God the Father.

2. Christology is the study of God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. Pneumatology is the study of God the Holy Spirit.

4. Trinity

5. Creation

6. Anthropology is the study of Man.

7. Bibliology is the study of the Word of God.

8. Hamartiology is the study of sin.

9. Soteriology is the study of salvation.

10. Ecclesiology is the study of the church.

11. Eschatology is the study of the end times.

12. Angelology/Satanology is the study of angels.

13. Demonology is the study of demons.

14. Christian Anthropology is the study of humanity.
