Questions from the Class
Question 8: Can Satan Control a Believer?
Emphatically no. At least in the sense of demon possession.
The Bible speaks clearly that the believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19). Also, the New Testament never records a believer being demon possessed.
Believers can be:
· Tempted
· Deceived
· Influenced
· Oppressed
· Discouraged
Peter was influenced by Satan’s thinking in Matthew 16:23.
Ananias and Sapphira allowed Satan significant influence in Acts 5:3.
Yet neither example demonstrates possession.
A believer belongs to Christ, is sealed by the Holy Spirit (Eph. 1:13-14), and cannot be owned by Satan.
A good summary is:
A believer may be influenced by Satan, but never possessed by Satan. A believer may yield ground through disobedience, but never ownership.
